White Leghorns are a well-known and are a highly productive egg-laying breed Prized for their efficiency, hardiness and consistent egg laying performance. They are lightweight, active birds with bright white feathers, yellow legs, and prominent red combs.
White Leghorns typically begin laying eggs around 16–18 weeks of age under proper care and lighting conditions. Once mature, a healthy hen can produce an average of 280–320 large white eggs per year, making them one of the most reliable egg producers available.
This breed is an excellent forager, adapts well to a wide range of climates, and requires less feed than heavier breeds, making them a cost-effective choice for both backyard flocks and small-scale egg operations.
